5 MYTHS ABOUT CONCENTRATION AND THE TRUTH BEHIND THEM

Concentration is probably the most important cognitive skill you need to have a productive day. Without concentration, you are a wondering person with no purpose. However, concentration is a quite misunderstood function of our brain. In this article, we will talk about 5 myths related to concentration and the truth behind them.

1- ADD/ADHD IS A FAD DIAGNOSIS

ADHD is not a trend. It is recognized by the American Psychiatric Association and identified as a medical condition. It is sometimes called ADD and is expressed in many different patterns in the brain. Experts say that there are different types of ADHD, however, they all have the notion of lack of attention or concentration in common. They come also with behavioral difficulties or hyperactivity-impulsivity”. Therefore, if you notice these symptoms in your child or someone near you, then advise them to see a doctor.

2- EVERYONE GETS OVER BEHAVIORAL AND ATTENTION ISSUES

Many people think that by the age of 12 or 13, everyone stops having behavioral and attention deficits. In fact, many people can still suffer from these issues even in their adulthood, and the symptoms could interfere with their daily life tasks for years and years. In fact, around 50% of children with ADHD are thought to have ongoing issues even when they become adults. Some people are not aware that they have such problems, and they can be corrected. In order to treat hyperactivity or attention deficit, one should start acknowledging that it is an actual health problem that can negatively impact him and his entourage.

3- HYPERACTIVITY AND ATTENTION DEFICIT ARE A MINOR ISSUE

Statistics make it certain that these two issues are serious and real, as 52% of untreated children cases grow to become drug abusers. More than 30% of high school students do not make it to graduation. Therefore, hyperactivity and attention deficit are serious issues that need to be treated.

4- ONLY BOYS GET DIAGNOSED WITH HYPERACTIVITY AND ATTENTION DEFICIT

It is true that hyperactivity and attention deficit diagnoses are higher in boys, however, these disorders also affect girls. Cases of ADD are usually introverted, daydreamers, and quite. This means that there could be many girls who have ADD but have not been diagnosed yet, which means that the diagnosis number does not reflect the number of actual cases of ADD. The reason why ADD cases do not get noticed is that they try to stay away from the light, and keep attention away from themselves. They could be labeled as slow, unmotivated or even lazy.

5- THE BEST TREATMENT FOR HYPERACTIVITY AND ATTENTION DEFICIT IS MEDICATION

There are some medications that could help to treat ADD problems, however, these are not the only solution. Also, these medications might not treat any of the issues related to the matter, and are not helpful for everyone. If your healthcare provider or your child’s doctor tells you that they will treat your problem with medications, ask them about other options and why they chose medication instead of other ways.
