5 EFFECTS OF LOVE ON THE BRAIN

Falling in love could be the most beautiful feeling that humans could go through. It affects all of our life and makes us feel happy about everything. These changes could be caused by the reactions that happen in our brain when in love. In this article, we will talk about 5 effects of love on the brain.

1- EUPHORIA

Euphoria is the feeling of excitement you get after spending time with the person you love. This feeling is due to the circulation of dopamine in your brain. This neurotransmitter is essential for your reward system to enforce behaviors that give you pleasure. Thinking of what you love can release dopamine in your body and make you feel excited. This plays a good role in making you want to see your partner or crush more often. And the more dopamine your brain releases when you are with them, the more likely you are to want to see them again.

2- FEELING LESS STRESS

Yes, love can also mean less stress. This because there is an increase in dopamine and oxytocin production which improves your moods and makes them more stable. On the other hand, research has found that single people have a higher level of cortisol (the stress hormone) in their bodies than people in relationships. Having a partner (especially if the relationship is healthy) means having someone to talk to and support you, which helps you distress faster.

3- JEALOUSY

When you love someone you are more likely to feel jealous of them. Jealousy is a natural emotion that allows you to pay extra attention to your feelings. While many people think that jealousy is negative, it can improve your commitment to your partner and make you not want to lose them. Taking advantage of jealousy and showing it in the right way can help a couple strengthen their relationship and their commitment to each other.

4- SLEEP AND APPETITE CHANGES

People in love might find themselves constantly thinking of the person they love and could experience insomnia because of that. This feeling can also affect their stomach because of the nervousness and make it hard for them to eat because when the brain is thinking of love, food could seem less important to it. The rapid change of hormone levels can affect both your sleep and appetite, therefore you need to pay attention to your sleep and food pattern and get enough of both of them, to be more prepared to face any challenges.

5- LOVE ADDICTION

While the debate about whether love is addicted or not is still going on, lovers have long experienced a pattern of craving the feeling they go through when they are with their partner, especially in the early stages of love. The disappearance of this feeling could also push people to want to move into other relationships to feel it again. If you feel like you are experiencing such a feeling, jumping from one relationship to another to find this dopamine rush, maybe it is time to take a break from dating and see a therapist if needed.
