5 REASONS WHY WE DREAM

Some people have weird dreams, others dream about their daily events, some do not remember their dreams, while may do not dream at all. This makes us wonder why and how we dream. According to science, dreaming is a time of communication between your inner wisdom and yourself when you are asleep. Your subconscious takes out all the thoughts and ideas that it has stored during the day and it tries to classify them in a meaningful way. To better understand the reason why we dream, we will expose in this article, 5 reasons why we dream.

1- DREAMS ARE COMPENSATION

According to psychologist Carl Jung’s theories, dreams are a way to compensate for events that have happened during our waken moments. Therefore, sometimes a sad person might experience a blissful dream as compensation so they are not completely depressed. Also, someone who is very successful and happy with their life can have a dream about the failure to compensate for the feelings of power. Jung also says that dreams might speak about underdeveloped parts of the individual’s personality.

2- DREAMS ARE COPING MECHANISMS

In many situations, especially when you are going through stressful times, your dreams will reflect your feelings of that period. You might see in your dreams, symbols from your waking life, which is a way to create relevance and help you cope with the inner turmoil you are going through. According to a psychiatry professor, dreams can be directed by some emotions such as worry or stress. The new emotions will connect in the memory of the individual and create a dream that helps him or her to cope with their reality.

3- DREAMS HELP IN PROCESSING INFORMATION

We already know that we need to rest in order to help our memory and brain process information. However, this does not happen due to some hours of rest only, but to dreams also. Dreams usually incorporate recent events, and when you dream of something you saw the past few days, this is your brain processing and organizing events that it recorded recently.

4- DREAMS PROVIDE A RESOLUTION

Dreams can sometimes hold solutions to some of your life’s problems. When we face problems, we try to resolve them using our already acquired knowledge. While dreaming, some of the acquired knowledge might surface from your subconscious and connect with the different details of your problem, which helps you resolve your problems while sleeping. Our brain is constantly processing concerns and issues from our daily lives and trying to find solutions for them. Therefore if you are facing a difficult situation, sleeping might help you find a solution for it.

5- DREAMS HELP FULFILL WISHES

Most of your dreams if not all of them are about you, as dreams typically reflect your deep concerns or desires. Sigmund Freud suggests that repressed emotions are the cause behind emotions, and the former can represent desires, wishes, and unconscious thoughts. When you dream, your subconscious can reveal the desires and wishes that your conscious is repressing.
