5 BRAIN-RELATED RESOLUTIONS YOU CAN START ACHIEVING THIS MONTH

We are not at the very beginning of the year, so thinking of a New Year resolution is not something that needs to be on your today’s to-do list. However, at the beginning of a new month, you have an excuse to improve yourself. Start with worrying about the health of your brain and consider doing some changes to keep it healthy this month. Here are 5 brain-related resolutions you can start achieving this month.

1- EXERCISE

Exercising is not only beneficial for the body but also for the brain. While you do not need to spend long hours working out, a minimum of 30 minutes can be very helpful for your brain. Workout 3 times per week for 30 to 60 minutes per session or daily for 25 minutes. Chose the training that you like so you are happy with your active session, and try to stick to that routine so you can experience the benefits of it.

2- SLEEP FOR A MINIMUM OF 7 HOURS

Sleep is when your body and brain are at rest. This period helps them get ready for the day and be able to endure stress and other pressures. Furthermore, lack of sleep can lead to heart diseases, diabetes as well as ADHD, or depression. For this reason, generation X and Millennials are known as the tired generation for their lack of sleep. Adults need to sleep between 7 to 9 hours every night, and in case you are unable to sleep this much maybe you need to blame it on your electronics consumption. Put sleeping for 8 hours on your list of goals this month to improve your brain and physical health.

3- SPEND MORE TIME IN FACE-TO-FACE RELATIONSHIPS

If you are still in quarantine, then this might be hard for you, however, try your best to conduct safe face-to-face conversations. In the last decade, technology gave us lots of options to get in touch with our loved ones where video calls became an essential part of our daily lives. This made our relationships separated by a screen that conveys facial expressions but not emotions. For this reason, it is recommended that you spend some time with the people you love away from your phone or tablet. Grab a coffee with your best friend, go for a walk with your boyfriend or watch a movie with your family.

4- EAT LESS SUGAR

You already know that sugar is not great for your body, even if it makes things tastier. The same goes for your brain, so make sure that you limit your sugar intake this month and replace that ingredient with more nutritional options.

5- PRACTICE MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is everything your brain needs to feel happy and energized. It is a technique that helps you be present in the current moment. If you implement it in your life it can reduce all feelings of stress, anxiety, and even depression. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, allow your brain a break by practicing mindfulness.
